A Day in the Life of a Sales Intern
Right now, CMGO has three sales interns. I’m one of them! Our experience as a sales intern is different from sales internships at other companies in that, instead of just staying within one department, we get to move around and jump from one department to another. Not only do we get to learn a ton from a bunch of different people who we wouldn’t have gotten the chance to meet otherwise, we also get to see how all the different departments communicate with each other to reach a common goal.
Because we jump around doing tasks from so many different departments, each day is very different for us. So, this outline is going to show just a small snapshot of what a day as a sales intern could look like.
9:00 AM – Arrive at work. Greet Charlie, the friendly security guard.
9:05 AM – Get settled in. Check email for the day’s meetings and respond to new messages.
9:30 AM – Meet with James Cosby, the VP of Media Sales, to learn more about what he does and get career advice from him.
10:30 AM – Work on a variety of long term projects with the other sales interns (i.e. managing Cox Digital Marketing’s social media accounts, creating databases, calling potential clients, or updating this website).
11:00 AM – Go on a green screen shoot with the production team.
12:30 PM – Go to lunch with the other sales interns or with a Cox employee who has invited us interns out to lunch.
1:30 PM – Shadow Jared Ream, a Media Campaign Coordinator, to learn how to use tools like DOT and see how an ad campaign is developed and executed.
2:30 PM – Continue working on long term projects.
3:30 PM – Attend a creative huddle meeting with some people from the creative team to brainstorm ideas for a client who is starting up a company and wanting a catchy, interesting name.
4:00 PM – Sit in on a conference call with a client and some people from our digital marketing team who will be discussing what the client's advertising goals are and how CMG can help achieve them.
5:00 PM – Check email and calendar one more time to make sure I’m all caught up, and then head home for the day.
